Tommy Lopez is a weekday news anchor and reporter at WCBI. He anchors and produces the 9 p.m. newscast on the CW and anchors and co-produces the 10 p.m. newscast on WCBI.

Tommy came to Columbus as the weekend sports anchor in April of 2013 after graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. He covered everything from high school football, to college baseball in Omaha, Nebraska and college football in New Orleans and Atlanta before switching to the news department.

After switching to news coverage in the summer of 2016, Tommy has covered events like the flooding in south Louisiana and the death of the Columbus mayor’s son. He’s been a part of WCBI’s coverage of the tornadoes in November of 2016 and the 2017 Mississippi legislative session.

Tommy grew up in central Virginia, learning about the broadcasting business at a young age from his father, who is a radio personality in Charlottesville, Va.
