Crawford and Maben, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – This is the last year for the East and West Oktibbeha County high school football teams. The schools are consolidating into the Starkville district.

It’s the final chance for the players to leave their stamp on “East” and “West”.

“I have a lot of guys that are showing a whole lot of enthusiasm about it,” East Oktibbeha head coach Kylan Tippett said. “They’re anxious to bring a championship, or something positive, to this school, with it closing.”

While there’s some sadness surrounding the end to the history behind the schools, there’s also something to look forward to.

“It’s an extremely special year. I like to look at it as a bitter-sweet feeling,” West head coach Danny Crawford said. “The last two years we’ve been on probation and weren’t eligible for the postseason. This year, it’s sweet because we’re off probation. It’s a good feeling.”
